Police arrests assalinat shot fire on Interior Minister, Ahsan out of danger

Islamabad Politics Report/Moazzam Raza Tabassam: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal was shot and injured after a electin compaign conrner meeting in tehsil Kanjrur of Narowal  on Sunday.

After immidate treatment at local hospital, Inteiror minister was shifted to lahore through  a helicopter sent on the directives of the Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

“He is receiving initial medical treatment at DHQ Hospital in Narowal,” his son Ahmed told media, adding that his father would be shifted to Lahore for further medical aid.

Iqbal was shifted to the hospital immediately after the incident. Iqbal’s son Ahmed confirmed that his father was conscious and out of danger.

Ahsan Iqbal has twitted after the incident on social media reqesting his friends and wellwishers for remember him in thier sepcial prayers.

According to the media reports, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader was attacked when he was leaving the event held at MPA Rana Manan’s residence.

The assailant Abid, aged between 20-22 years, shot at the interior minister on his right shoulder as he was sitting in his vehicle, confirmed DPO Imran Kishwar, adding that a 30-bore pistol was also recovered from the man.

The suspected shooter was taken into custody. He was identified as a local 20 to 22-year-old youth residing in the jurisdiction of the Shah Gharib police station in Kanjrur tehsil.

State Minister for Interior Tallal Chaudry, in an exclusive conversation with media, said that suspect’s age was between 20 and 22 years. Chaudhry said an investigation was underway into the incident.

 it was unfortunate that the country’s interior minister had been injured in a firing incident.  The attack would make all political parties nervous and cautious as they gear up for the upcoming elections.

It is not sure what has prompted such an attack — the amendment in the  Elections Reforms Amendment Bill regarding declaration of Khatam-e-Nabowat or something else,” as reason claimed by accused Abid in initial police investigation.

Initial reports claim that the accused was born on May 13, 1995, and has been to Dubai in the past.

According to the media reports, Ahsan Iqbal was informed five days ago by intelligence agencies about a possible attempt on his life.

Earlier in February this year, a shoe was hurled at the interior minister while he was addressing workers in Narowal.

Numerous key political figures have been assassinated in such attacks including, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman and twice prime minister Benazir Bhutto, Punjab governor Salman Taseer, former Punjab home minister Shuja Khanzada and others.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa strongly condemned gun attack on federal minister Ahsan Iqbal.

According to Inter Service public Relations (ISPR) Army Chief has condemned the gun attack on Ahsan Iqbal and prayed for his early recovery.

Political leaders condemn incident

PML-N president and CM Punjab Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemn the assassination attempt  in is twitter message saying ,” the assassination attempt on my friend Ahsan Iqbal… Just spoke to him & he is in high spirits MashaAllah … Those who indulged in this heinous act will be brought to justice… PMLN will not be browbeaten into submission… Prayers for quick recovery !”

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari chairman Pakistan Peoples Party also strongly condemned the assassination attemp on interior minister. He demanded to bring to book the culprit. he prayed to almighty allah for early recovery of Ahsan Iqbal.

Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarin Presidant Asif Ali Zardari also expressed the need to stop such incident.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan strongly condemned the attack on the interior minister.
