Federal Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif Disqualified

Islamabad Politics Report/Moazzam Raza Tabassam: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) declared that Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif stands disqualified from Parliament for holding an Iqama(work permit) of the UAE.

The IHC reserved the verdict on April 10.

The court announced its verdict (Today) on a petition stating that Asif did not mention his foreign employment in his nomination papers.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Minallah announced the verdict and ruled that Asif is not ‘honest’ and ‘truthful’ as per the Constitution.

The three bench members unanimously ruled that Asif has been disqualified as per Article 62 (1) (f) of the Constitution.

The disqualification petition was filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Usman Dar, who was fielded by his party during the general elections of 2013 in NA-110, the same constituency from where Asif was elected to the National Assembly.
