Abbasi, Shah still fail to reach consensus on Caretaker Premier after 5th meeting

Islamabad Politics Report/Moazzam Raza Tabassam: The Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader still fail to reach consensus on Caretaker Prime Minister name after fifth meeting on Tuseday.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has given the names of Justice (r) Nasir-ul-Mulk, Tassaduq Jilani and Ishrat Hussain for caretaker prime minister.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi discussed these names with Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah during their meetings.

Earlier, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) had finalized the names of Zaka Ashraf and Jalil Abbas Jilani for caretaker PM.

Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah had given these names to PM Abbasi after consultations with both party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

Reportedly, Asif Zardari phoned both the nominees separately and informed them, expressing hope that no one would have any objections to them for they are experts in economics, banking and administrative affairs.

Zaka Ashraf had previously served as Chairman of PCB while Jalil Abbasi Jilani had served as Pakistan s ambassador to US.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PIT) had finalised the names of Dr Ishrat Hussain, Tassaduq Jilani and Abdul Razzaq Dawood, while, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) had finalised the name of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan for the caretaker PM.

PPP is not in mood to consider a retired judge for the Caretaker PM post. People’s Party leadership wished an exprienced bearucrate as Caretaker PM.

PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said that the PPP has proposed two names [Zaka Ashraf and Jalil Abbas] for caretaker premier. We will have to wait and look that whether Abbasi [incumbent premier] accept or reject these names, adding that the names proposed by PTI were more suitable.

There was still a lack of consensus between him and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi over the name of the caretaker prime minister, Khursheed Shah told media after the meeting.

“If the matter is not settled in tomorrow’s meeting, the decision may be taken to a parliamentary committee,” Shah said,

The names presented by the prime minister and the opposition leader, already media has been discussing these candidates referring to sources for several weeks.

There is a general impression in political circles that the government and opposition parties have already rejected each other’s nomine during their discussions on candidates under wraps last days and now the differences are being brought on record just.

Asif Ali Zardari dismissed the government’s proposed candidates while the PTI has rejected PP nominated candidates.

“Because of the fact that there was no new name for discussion with the opposition leader and prime minister, the fourth meeting was remaind very short”, a sources claims in privy.

In fifth meeting Today, The Prime Minister can not present any new name, but insists on considering the names already discussed.

The Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader will forward the matter to the Parliamentary Committee if the unanimous candidate for the Caretaker PM was not decided in their sixth meeting expected on Thursday.
